The
capital city of Kuwait is Kuwait City with
about 1.2 million people. The political centre is
also in Kuwait City. Kuwait is a Constitutional Monarchy.

Languages:
The languages spoken are Arabic, but
English is widely understood, especially in commerce and industry. The
TV programs are in their original language. Cable
TV is available.
·
Population:
The population is about 2.7 million people - 45% are Kuwaiti, 35% other
Arab, 9% South Asian, 4% Iranian, 7% other.
·
Expat areas:
Popular area for the Expat community is Kuwait City.
·
Housing:
The availability of apartments and houses in the country and particularly
in these popular areas varies. Most Expats rent their apartment or house; some
buy their homes. Both options are available but mainly depend on your company
policy, income, and the length of your stay.

Cost of housing: Varies from area to area and the size of the house or apartment
you'll pay anything from US$ 2500 for a 3 bedroom apartment to US$ 3000 for a 4
bedroom apartment. US$ 4300 for a 3 bedroom house and US$ 8900 for a 6 bedroom
house or even higher. The local currency is Kuwait Dinar
(KD).

Schools: We
have the American, the British and the International school available.
Depending on the age we can tell you about a possible waiting lists, etc.
· Transportation:
Bus: Kuwait Transport Company operates a nationwide service which
is both reliable and inexpensive. Taxi: These are recognizable by
red license plates and may be hired by the day, in which case fares should be
agreed beforehand. Share-taxis and meter taxis are also available. Taxis can be phoned and this
service is popular and reliable. A standard rate is applicable in most taxis,
but those at hotel ranks are more expensive. Tipping is not expected.

Bank: The
banks
are open from Sunday-Thursday 8.00 am - 12.00/12:30 pm.

Shopping:
Is generally done from Saturday-Thursday 8.30 am - 12.30 pm and 4.30 pm - 9.00
pm. Fridays from 3.30 pm - 8.30 pm.

Climate:
Kuwait enjoys a variable continental climate. Summer months are between June and
October and the rainy season runs from December to February, when humidity can
also be high. In summer temperatures can get over 38°C (100°F), but they drop
below 21°C (70°F) in winter.

Culture:
Several cinemas in Kuwait City show recent films. Two theatres often put
on very good amateur productions.
